A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe.

Since my last communication, there are some important updates that I wanted to share with you. In all of CWA Local 1120, we currently have 2 confirmed members that have tested positive for Covid-19. 1 in our Marist unit and 1 in our Vassar unit. Although this number is amazing compared to other Locals in the state, it is 2 too many!

We continue to be in constant contact with second, third and fourth level managers at Verizon as well as Management in all units in our Local to ensure safe working conditions are adhered to for all our members.

Over this past weekend, on a Presidents Conference call, it was learned that Verizon and CWA have agreed to suspend Field Techs from entering homes of the customer unless a medical emergency exists. Details were posted on the website. Please adhere to these strict guidelines. It is for your health and safety. If at any time you feel there is an unsafe condition, report it to your Supervisor and Steward or Business Agent immediately!

Below are some guidelines you can do during this time. Some recommendations are new from the CDC.

*Wash your hands frequently with antibacterial soap and use hand sanitizer often.

*Use disinfecting wipes to clean hard surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and cell phones often.

*If you feel there is an unsafe working condition, contact a steward immediately to report it so we can rectify the situation.

*Continue to practice social distancing at work, at home and in your personal life when ever possible. Stay 6 feet apart whenever you can.

*If you feel sick, stay home and quarantine for at least 14 days.

*Wear a face mask or homemade face shield when out and about. 

*Lastly, check on the elderly and the most vulnerable in need. Help out however you can while keeping yourself safe!
