To all CWA Local 1120 members,
I am incredibly pleased to share a major update regarding the "1% more" grievance concerning the wage increase from July 2025 at Marist University.
As you know, CWA Local 1120 formally disputed the wage increase applied by Marist last year, firmly maintaining that per our negotiated contractual language our members were rightfully owed an additional 1% salary increase. Marist contested our position. However, after 13 months of rigorous discussions, grievance hearings, multiple days of testimony, and tireless advocacy, CWA Local 1120 has prevailed in arbitration.
The arbitrator has ruled entirely in favor of CWA. As a result, our members will receive the additional 1% salary increase, fully retroactive to July 2025.
The Value of Our Union
This victory is a powerful reminder of why our union exists and the tangible value it brings to our lives. Contract enforcement is not passive; it requires vigilance, resources, and unwavering determination. When individual voices might be dismissed, our collective voice cannot be ignored. This outcome proves once again that CWA’s commitment to representing and protecting its members is unmatched.
A Collective Effort
An achievement of this magnitude requires a dedicated team. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who made this possible:
- Our Stewards & Legal Counsel: For their exhaustive preparation, hard work, and brilliant execution throughout the arbitration process.
- Our Members: For your immense patience, solidarity, and continued faith in the process over the last 13 months.
I am deeply proud to serve as your President, but I am even more proud to stand alongside you as a fellow member. Today is a day to hold your head high and take pride in what we can achieve when we stand together.
Next Steps
We are currently working out the logistics regarding the timeline for distribution. We will provide detailed information in the near future regarding exactly when you can expect to see the salary adjustment and the retroactive pay reflected in your checks.
Thank you for your continued support and solidarity. When we fight, we win.
In Solidarity,
Jim Gescheidle
President, CWA Local 1120
