Dear Verizon Local Presidents,
We have just learned that the Chairwoman of the Public Service Commission in NY has contacted our attorney, Richard Brodsky, and informed him that the PSCplans to convene a formal, evidentiary proceeding on the issue of "copper abandonment" in the very near future. We do not have any additional details about the exact timing or structure of the proceeding.
But we do know this goes far beyond the hearings held by the PSC this summer, or the "technical conferences" scheduled for Feb 24 and 25 on the topics of service quality, broadband access, and legal and regulatory issues.
A formal proceeding means that testimony by all parties will be provided under oath, documents can be subpoenaed, and that the PSC expects to issue some kind of ruling at the end.
This seems like a potentially huge breakthrough with major implications for our members and the general public.
As soon as we know more, we'll let you know.
Sincerely,
Gladys Finnigan
CWA District 1
