Dear Colleagues:
As you know, three cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) have been confirmed within the U.S. The first case which involved an individual who traveled from West Africa to Dallas, Texas, has resulted in his death. Fortunately, the other two individuals- the nurses who provided treatment to the decedent, are receiving medical treatment. In response to the EVD outbreak, in coordination with my office, President Larry Cohen, District 1 Vice President Chris Shelton, CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department and District 1 are leading the charge to ensure CWA members are protected against potential exposure to the Ebola virus. This is a particular concern for our healthcare, social service, airlines, and telecommunications members. At present, education and training materials are being developed and, in the coming weeks, educational materials will be disseminated and training sessions will be initiated. These activities will be supported through the Union's occupational safety and health strategic industry fund activity and the CWA/USW occupational and environmental safety and health grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Training will be initiated within District 1 and then be conducted throughout the U.S.

Please let me know if you would like to participate in this education and training program.
In Solidarity,
